Happy Anniversary NAAAHR Delaware
On Friday, March 4, 2016 the Delaware Chapter of the National Association of African Americans celebrated our 5th Anniversary. It was an intimate evening of reflections, recognition’s, and congratulations to the DE Board of Directors and the Diversity Council for the work done over the past five years.
The guest speaker for the evening was none other than the Honorable Chip Flowers, former State Treasurer for Delaware. Mr. Flowers addressed the NAAAHR Delaware Chapter, the National Board of Directors, and all guests with complements of an organization he was proud to support. He added to his acknowledgement that, since leaving the State of Delaware, he has turned down every other request for his return to speak – except that of the DE Chapter of NAAAHR. He blessed us with not only being the Keynote Speaker at our Launch Ceremony, but agreed to return to Delaware and celebrate our 5th Anniversary. We have supported the Honorable Flowers throughout his term as State Treasurer and will continue to do so from afar.
When asked the importance of NAAAHR in the State of Delaware; our response was how the mission and purpose has been to ensure the message of Diversity and Inclusion does not land solely on the ears of African Americans – but to all minorities, all levels of professionals, and all vertical markets. Our chapter has hosted informative webinars, conferences, and meeting mixers to support HR Initiatives, D&I Initiatives, and Workforce Initiatives. Not to mention, several, if not all Board Members, have been featured speakers at conferences and events, taking on the “courageous conversation” of equality in the workplace.
The solid partnership of NAAAHR Delaware with WL Gore & Associates has laid the foundation of the signature “Diversity Exchange Forum”, hosted every year in October. Mr. Terrence Dickenson of WL Gore, brought together a strong team associates who formed the Diversity Council; which included members of the NAAAHR Delaware Board and employees of WL Gore.
The 5th Anniversary Dinner for NAAAHR Delaware was not a political platform for apologies – it was a celebration where the Honorable Chip Flowers, Chris Lopez (Regional Vice President of NAAAHR), Nat Alston (founding President and current Chairman of the Board for NAAAHR), Dr. Nat’e Guyton (Chief Operating Officer), Dr. Rosa Colon-Kolako (President Global Learning & Diversity Partner), and Erika Broadwater (President of NAAAHR Delaware) all congratulated the Delaware Chapter on its success.
Congratulations once again to NAAAHR Delaware! With the success of five strong years, we look forward to many more years to come. There is positive work being done in the State of Delaware for African Americans and all Minorities.
